Requirements for freelancers |
We always work exclusively with professionals who are native speakers of the target language (language B for us).
For example:
- whoever translates from Spanish to English, CANNOT translate from English to Spanish.
This may also affect the geographical varieties of a language, and we are particularly strict in the case of European and Brazilian Portuguese:
- whoever translates from Spanish TO European Portuguese, CANNOT translate -and we make NO exception- TO Brazilian Portuguese (or vice versa, whoever translates to Brazilian Portuguese cannot translate into European Portuguese).
We have never met with a professional who can effortlessly translate into both European Portuguese and into Brazilian Portuguese. And in the case of British and American English, for example, very rarely. And no editor who is able to clarify both varieties well.
The exact criterion for each target language is decided on an individual basis.
Only include combinations and specialities where you can ensure high quality and commitment.
Education:
You must fulfill one of the following requirements:
- degree in translation or interpreting;
- language degree + 5 years professional experience;
- degree in speciality + 5 years professional experience (only in speciality)
Speciality: it is important to indicate the level of education and experience (in years or volume) gained in each field of speciality.
Only those in which you have sufficient education or demonstrable experience (detailed in Observations or in the CV you attach), showing explicit involvement and depth (glossaries, terminology, documentation, concepts, assessment, etc.).
It is better to work comfortably with just a few specialities than with 15 that may be just a product of a few random translations or a passing or sketchy interest.
